Two arrested after Umhlanga Rocks Drive hijacking

The suspects were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm, a knife and live ammunition.

TWO men have been arrested by police after they hijacked a 60-year-old man on Umhlanga Rocks Drive on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at about 9.20am according to provincial SAPS spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane.

“It is alleged the 60-year-old was driving on Umhlanga Rocks Drive on Wednesday (26 June). While stationary at the set of robots his path of travel was blocked by two armed men. They forced him to the back seat of his vehicle at gunpoint and drove towards the R102 Road to a service station.

“The victim noticed a police vehicle that was stationary at the service station and informed the officers he had been hijacked. An unlicensed firearm, knife, as well as ammunition were found in suspects’ possession,” Zwane said.

The two suspects aged 19 and 22  were placed under arrest and are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on charges of carjacking, pointing of a firearm, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
