IMPORTANT NOTICE: Free rabies shots in Durban North area

Pet owners are urged to inoculate their cats and dogs against rabies in an inoculation campaign hosted by the state vet, free of charge, starting from 3 June in Umhlanga Rocks Drive.

ANIMAL health technicians from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will be in the north Durban area in June to conduct their two-yearly animal rabies vaccinations campaign.

The vaccinations are done freely and animal health technician for the department, Caroline Vika said they are encouraging all pet owners to ensure their dogs and cats are vaccinated against rabies which is usually spread through an animal bite.

Vika said: “Rabies is a controlled disease and once a person is bitten by a rabid animal there is no cure – they should get to a clinic or a hospital immediately. The pet owners must bring their animal’s certificate from the previous vaccination but if they do not one, it will be issued.”
