Councillor bemoans state of Glenhills road

Large potholes dot Bougainvillea Drive and a number of sections have grass growing through the tar pushing the surface apart.

RESIDENTS and ward councillor Pete Graham have expressed their unhappiness about the state of Bougainvillea Drive in Glenhills. They say the road is in ‘serious need of rehabilitation’.

Graham said he had contacted the City a number of times over the problem.

“Other roads in Glenhills were rehabilitated like Rinaldo Road, however this road is in urgent need of a fix. The long road is intersected by Longwoods Drive but both sides of the road need re-tarring. The recent rains have exacerbated the problem and the cracks in the road have worsened. There are some large potholes on the road which erode with every rainfall.

“I’ve had a look at the City’s list of roads set for rehabilitation this quarter and Bougainvillea Drive is not on the list. At this point, the road may be too bad for chip and spray. I would say it needs a total rehabilitation where the City gets in a grader and resurfaces the entire road. If regular maintenance was being done on the roads around Durban, this sort of problem wouldn’t exist,” he said.

While the City has not responded to questions at the time of going to print, the complaint has been logged with the Roads Department to attend to the matter according to email correspondence with Graham.
