Local actresses to shine on Sneddon stage

Northlands Girls' High School learner, Lasandra Majola and Crawford College La Lucia learner, Leah Mari are looking forward to showing their talents on the grand stage in the show-stopping production.

TWO local singers and actresses are looking forward to shining on the big stage when they star in the newly-invigorated Young Performers Project (YPP), Curtain Up! at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre.

Northlands Girls’ High School learner, Lasandra Majola and Crawford College La Lucia learner, Leah Mari are looking forward to showing their talents on the grand stage in the show-stopping production.

The show has been re-written and updated by multi-award-winning actress, Charon Williams-Ros, who wrote the original script for the first production in 2001.

Curtain Up! will feature show-stopping musical theatre numbers woven into a script about a diverse group of talented young performers who take shelter from the rain in a derelict theatre where, to their delight, they discover the evocative remnants of past productions.

“I’ve been involved with the Young Performers Project since I was in Grade 8,” explained Mari. “My mom and I love theater and I’d been aware of the YPP for a long time so I got involved as soon as I could and I’ve been lucky enough to feature in every single production since then. The YPP has a big place in my heart. What I think is great this year like most is seeing a big ensemble cast. I can’t give anything away but I hope everyone will come out and watch and support the show,” she said.

For Majola, this will be her first big production and the Grade 11 learner is looking forward to sharing the stage with the cast.

“I love drama and when I auditioned for the Young Performers Project I didn’t expect to be a part of the production but I’m so glad I’m part of it. We’ve done a few rehearsals so far and it’s been so much fun. Getting to know the other cast members has also been a lovely experience because for many of us, we would like to make a career out of drama so having this opportunity is invaluable,” she said.
