WATCH: Trees wash past Swan Boat as Umgeni River floods
The famous Swan Boat, which docks in the Blue Lagoon Pond, was also nearly washed away.
TREE branches broke off against the M4 Bridge as an island of debris was washed away with the swollen waters of the Umgeni River this morning. The famous Swan Boat, which docks in the Blue Lagoon Pond, was also nearly washed away as the river banks have been flooded with the heavy rains, causing havoc in Durban North and surrounds.

Owner of the Swan Boat, Sandra Isaac said her team worked hard to secure the boat.
“We managed to rescue the Swan Boat, it was on its way out into the river. We went out on a rubber duck. It was the bank and the buoys that stopped the Swan Boat from washing away,” she said.
Trees were spotted washing down the Umgeni River, past the Swan Boat when Durban North resident, Mike Frew caught the moment on film.
“I filmed the video at 7.25am this morning. There was still a bit of rain, but it was easing up. I went past Blue Lagoon on my way to work,” said Frew.

Sifiso Mngoma, social media coordiantor for Green Hub said the water levels had risen so high that the promenade beside the river was flooded.
“The water level is so high, if you look across toward the mangrove side there is a lot of debris and plastic pollution,” he said.

Mngoma added that one could not distinguish between the river and the Blue Lagoon Pond.
“With the rising water level, there is no difference between the pond and the river,” he said.
