Mayor renews population registration campaign

Spokesperson for the eThekwini Municipality, Msawakhe Mayisela said the NPRC aims to document all citizens in order to enhance government service delivery targets and planning priorities.

ETHEKWINI  Mayor, Cllr Zandile Gumede and Minister of Home Affairs, Siyabonga Cwele, signed a renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to implement the National Population Registration Campaign (NPRC) yesterday at Havana Grill in Suncoast Casino.

Spokesperson for the eThekwini Municipality,  Msawakhe Mayisela said the signing ceremony is aimed at formalising the long-standing working relationship that exists between the municipality and the Department of Home Affairs.

“It will strengthen intergovernmental relations and enhance service delivery to the people of South Africa. The MOU is part of the Home Affairs Department and the City’s aggressive campaign to mobilise local councillors, ward committees, the institution of traditional leadership and local volunteers to ensure that all citizens born in the country are documented. This is believed to pave the way for the state to plan appropriately for all citizens to have an equitable access to basic services,” he said.

According to Mayisela, the NPRC aims to document all citizens in order to enhance government service delivery targets and planning priorities.
