Woman plummets to her death while fleeing protesters in Durban

"The situation around China Mall is extremely hostile and Metro Police SAPS are on the scene, " said Garrith Jamieson of Rescue Care Paramedics.

A woman, believed to be fleeing from violent protesters, plummeted approximately three metres off a roof of Durban’s China Mall on  Inanada Road today at about 9:30am.

Spokesperson for Rescue Care Paramedics, Garrith Jamieson said paramedics arrived on the scene to find the woman, believed to be about 45,  in a state of cardiac arrest.

“Due to the injuries sustained, there was nothing more paramedics could do for her and she was declared deceased on the scene,” said Jamieson.

Shortly after attending to the fatality, paramedics were faced with more patients.

“Two males who were also running on the roof, away from protesters , fell through. They have sustained serious injuries and are currently being treated on the scene by Rescue Care paramedics,” said Jamieson.

According to Jamieson, the situation around China Mall is extremely still hostile and Metro Police and SAPS are on the scene.
