Support Project Loo fundraiser

Claire Hewer hopes to raise enough money to build three more toilets in Inanda for her NPO, Project Loo.

FOR some, having access to flushable toilets remains a luxury. Millions of South Africans, who use either the bucket system, pit latrines (long drops) or chemical toilets are still without access to proper flushable loos.

It’s estimated that as many as 15-million people don’t have access to adequate sanitation in South Africa.
One person, who has become acutely aware of the problem facing those in disadvantaged communities, is Claire Hewer.

She started Project Loo Durban, an NPO aimed at providing dry sanitation toilets to thousands of residents in Inanda. The Sunningdale resident has urged residents to support a fundraiser for Project Loo which takes place on Saturday, 30 March at the Barnyard Suncoast for the Rock Circus fundraiser.

“We thought this would be an awesome event for our first fundraiser for Project Loo. All profits go towards the project and if we sell all 340 tickets we will have enough money to install three new toilets in Inanda which would be amazing.

If residents aren’t able to attend but would like to donate a raffle draw prize that would be amazing too,” she said.

Raffles tickets are on sale for R10 each and tickets for show are R165 per person.
