Motorists shot by unknown gunmen

Gunshots rifled through the air as unknown suspect(s) shot and hit two motorists.

TWO men are in critical condition after being shot multiple times while driving along Queen Nandi Drive near the Emgidwini intersection in Avoca Hills on Tuesday, 5 March at 12:08pm.

Netcare 911 Media Liaison Officer, Shawn Herbst said the suspects drove past in a Red Toyota Etios and opened fire on the victims with automatic rifles firing multiple rounds.

“The men were assessed on scene by a Netcare 911 Emergency Care Practitioner. The patients required Advanced Life Support intervention on scene and once stabilized were transported to hospital for further treatment,” said Herbst.

Herbst confirmed that both men had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

“Reports from the scene indicate that gunmen had opened fire on a car near the Emgidwini intersection,” said Hebst.

Communications officer for the Greenwood Park SAPS, Sergent Vincent Mthembu confirmed the shooting.

“The scene is still active. SAPS members are on the scene investigating and a full report is to follow,” said Mthembu.
