Crusaders give back to Inanda trail running club

The donation of running shoes and t-shirts all stemmed from last month's inaugural 6km fun run/walk.

THERE were plenty of smiles last week as the Crusaders Running Club donated more than 100 T-shirts and more than 25 pairs of running shoes to members of the Inanda Trail Running Club.

The donation all stemmed from last month’s inaugural 6km fun run/walk. The event was a smashing success and as word spread of the club’s charitable drives, Crusaders were contacted by the Inanda based club. Initially the trail running club asked for any help with shoes or running kits. Members of Crusaders obliged donating kits, string bags and running shoes.

Mmeli Ndimande and Sipho Canham of the Inanda Trail Running Club said they were blown away by the donation.

“I actually saw the article in the Northglen News and when I saw the club had a charitable side to it I tried my luck and asked for help. I really didn’t expect a response but Mark Reeves, the chairman, got in touch with me and said they were only too happy to help out. I just want to say thank you to each and every person who has contributed to this drive. This is life-changing for the club and the children of the valley. We started the club a few years ago and we know what sport has given us, now we are trying to impart the same ethos in our members,” he said.

Fellow Inanda club member, Sipho Canham said members of the club often ran without shoes.

“The shoes alone are going to make a world of difference. So many of our youngsters run without shoes and they have great potential, that’s without shoes so I can only imagine what they can do with shoes. We love the sport of trail running but often we don’t have the resources to support our members. This gesture by Crusaders is incredibly heartwarming for us,” he said.

According to chairman of Crusaders Running Club, Mark Reeves, they hoped to foster a relationship with the club going forward.

“We are a community orientated club and we love giving back. I’ve been so pleased by our club members and everyone who’s donated to the cause. Hearing what Mmeli had to say about what this means to the club has made it all worth it,” he said.
