Hijacker shot by security officer in Effingham

The suspect attempted to hijack an armed reaction officer and tried to disarm him of his firearm.

AN alleged hijacker was shot by a private security guard just before midday on Effingham Road. According to Crisis Medical’s Kyle van Reenen the suspect was taken to hospital under police guard.

“Reports from the scene indicate that a male suspect attempted to hijack an armed reaction officer of a private security company when a scuffle ensued. The suspect tried to disarm the officer who fired shots in self defence.

“The suspect sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was treated and stabilised on scene before being taken by ambulance to Addington Hospital, under police guard. The security officer did not sustain any injury in the ordeal,” he said.

A case has been opened at the Greenwood Park SAPS.
