VIDEO: Northwood learner to swim Midmar Mile to raise funds for local family

Grade 8 learner, Josh Crocker, hopes to raise funds for the Jones family following a freak accident, which left Sammy Jones (3) severely injured.

A DURBAN North mother has spoken about the pain and sleepless nights her family have had to endure since her son was severely injured in a freak accident in December.

Just days before Christmas last year, Sammy Jones (3) was playing in his garden with his cousin when a wall collapsed on top of him maiming his foot. The weight of the wall severed a part of the youngster’s heel and would later lead to him losing three toes.

The brave three-year-old has undergone more than 14 surgeries since the accident in a bid to help him walk again.

Speaking to Northglen News last week, his mother, Pam Jones, explained how her family were still coming to terms with the freak accident and facing the financial burden.

Jones praised the efforts of Northwood School Grade 8 learner, Josh Crocker, who is swimming this year’s aQuellé Midmar Mile in order to raise funds for the family.

The family have set-up a Go Get Funding page as well as BackABuddy page to help them with medical costs.

Crocker said helping the Jones family was the least he could do.

Crocker also urged residents to use the hashtag, #HelpSammyToWalkAgain to show their support for the Durban North family.
