Make your voice heard urges IEC

The second and final voter registration weekend for the 2019 National and Provincial Elections has been scheduled for Saturday, 26 January and Sunday 27, January 2019.

THE Independent Electoral Commission(IEC) has urged residents across the country to register to vote. In a statement, the IEC announced that residents have been given one last chance to make sure that their names are added on the voters’ roll.

The second and final voter registration weekend for the 2019 National and Provincial Elections has been scheduled for Saturday, 26 January and Sunday 27, January 2019.

“The country’s 22 932 voting stations will open from 8am to 5pm to allow first-time voters to register and existing voters to update and to check their registration details. We are hoping that at least one million voters will be added to the voters’ roll ahead of the elections,” said the IEC.

Currently there are 26.1 million registered voters on the national common voters’ roll.

Glen Anil resident Kiara Teunissen, who will be voting for the first time said she’s excited and I can’t wait to make her voice heard.

The 18-year-old said,”The biggest misconception is that if you don’t vote it’s going to make a difference. I believe that if everyone voting is what will make a bigger difference.”

The Electoral Commission is also hopeful that voters who are already registered will use the opportunity to visit their voting station to check their registration and specifically to confirm and update their address details. Alternatively, to check their current status registered voters can visit the Commission’s website on www.elections.org.za.

“They can also SMS their ID number to 32810 to receive an SMS containing their registration status and the address of their voting station (charged at R1).
Unregistered voters can insert their address in the Voting Station Finder application on the website (https://maps.elections.org.za/vsfinder/) to find their correct voting station or call the Contact Centre,” added the IEC.
