Umgeni undergoes massive economic growth

The development contributed to job creation, as a total of 500 temporary construction jobs have been created within the first phase and approximately 250 permanent jobs will be offered once phase one is operational.

THE northern part of Durban in Springfield has been transformed into a game-changing reality in the industrial and commercial property sector of KwaZulu-Natal. This was realised on 1 November during the grand opening of the first phase of a R1.4 billion prime destination park, ‘Umgeni Lifestyle and Décor Park’ which offers 90 000 square metres modern business space.

The 13.6 hectares two-phase commercial concept development was conceptualised by Eris Property Group in partnership with Intersite Asset Investments which is a property division of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa.

The developer, Stephen Lawson from Eris Property Group, said: “We are excited about the grand opening of the development. This will add immense value to the Umgeni area and initiate the start of a new commercial property offering for eThekwini and the greater KZN.”

Lawson said the development contributed to job creation, as a total of 500 temporary construction jobs have been created within the first phase and approximately 250 permanent jobs will be offered once phase one is operational.

Detailing an overview purpose of the development, Lawson said the Umgeni Décor and Lifestyle Park aims to provide a centrally located node, aesthetically pleasing and secure business and retail park environment to companies from within the home, décor and lifestyle industries.

“The development has been designed with the community and environment in mind providing a landscaped green environment which promotes the use of walkways for consumers moving between the respective sites,” added Lawson.
