Armed robberies rock La Lucia, uMgeni Park

In one of the incidents, the suspects ransacked the home and made off with the homeowner's vehicle.

ARMED gangs targeted homes in uMgeni Park and La Lucia in two separate armed robberies over the weekend. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the incidents occurred on Soofie Saheb Drive and Millhaven Place.

The incidents occurred at 5.30pm and 6.30pm respectively.

“In the first incident in La Lucia the homeowner was sitting on the couch when he heard the neighbours’ dog barking. When he got up to investigate he was confronted by a suspect armed with a handgun.

“He demanded the keys for the safe and confined the homeowner and the domestic worker to a room in the house. The suspects then ransacked the home stealing various items including a TV, an iPhone, jewellery and a DVD player,” he said.

The second incident on Soofie Saheb Drive followed a similar modus operandi.

“In this incident the homeowner was confronted by four suspects wearing balaclavas. The suspects pushed him to the ground and ransacked the home. The gang then loaded the homeowner’s vehicle, a white VW Golf, with the stolen items and drove off. The vehicle was later recovered in Lamontville,” he said.

The suspects involved in both incidents are still at large.
