Trail builder promises ‘more fun’ at Sharks Trail Adventure

The STIHL Sharks Trail Adventure takes place at the Summerveld Estate on 2 December.

PREPARATIONS are already underway on the mountain bike trails for the annual STIHL Sharks Trail Adventure at the Summerveld Estate on 2 December, with trail builder Ewan Cochrane eager to add ‘even more fun’ to the popular 40km ride around the hills of Summerveld.

“This is a unique ride in that it comes at the end of the year when most of the top riders have wrapped up their major events, and almost forms part of next year’s training,” said Cochrane. “There are also some very exciting features in the area that we can take advantage of.”

While promising to leave the basic routes for the 40km and 20km routes largely unchanged, Cochrane is hard at work linking the 40km ride to some of the features that were hallmarks of the Hill2Hill ride, and haven’t been used for many years.

“There is an awesome section of switchbacks on the old Hill2Hill route that I will be factoring into the 40km ride,” said Cochrane. “We will climb up a section of concrete strip to get up to the switchbacks but it will be well worth it,” he said.

The day will also include an easy 10km family fun ride and the popular kids race around the Summerveld complex in addition to the 18km and 9km trail runs.
