Beachfront promenade extension on track
The promenade extension is expected to be complete by November next year.
CITY officials recently hosted a site visit to track progress of the R300 million beachfront promenade extension development which commenced in April.
Once the extension is completed, the promenade will stretch from Blue Lagoon all the way to the harbour mouth and is expected to contribute vastly to the municipality’s goal of positioning Durban as an attractive City to live, work and play.
Following the site visit, Deputy City Manager for Economic Development and Planning Phillip Sithole said he was delighted with the progress.

Sithole said the City is pleased to note that there has been no hiccups thus far and that everything is on track. He added that once the promenade is fully extended, no City in the world will match the beauty and class of the Durban beachfront.
“The development will also play a huge role in boosting local tourism because it will attract more beach lovers. The extended promenade will definitely distinguish Durban from other coastal cities in Africa,” said Sithole.
Project Manager Afika Ndima said the extension should be complete by November next year.

The R300 million beachfront promenade extension is a catalyst for the R35 billion Point Waterfront Development to be undertaken in three phases over 10 to 15 years.
