Businesswoman assaulted in Durban North robbery

The suspects followed the victim home from her workplace on Mackeurtan Avenue.

A DURBAN North businesswoman was assaulted by a gang of armed robbers in her driveway on Hoylake Drive on Wednesday afternoon at about 5pm. The woman, believed to be in her 70s, was followed home from her workplace in the area.

According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, the victim was confronted as she entered her driveway by suspects armed with hand guns.

“The armed suspects smashed the windows to her vehicle, demanding she hand over her handbag and belongings. They assaulted the lady by hitting her over the head with the butt of a firearm. During the incident, one of the suspects fired a shot, striking the ground next to the vehicle, before fleeing in an awaiting getaway car in an unknown direction,” he said.

According to Shawn Herbst spokesman for Netcare 911, the elderly woman was treated by Crisis Medical and Netcare 911.

“The elderly lady was treated on scene for a wound to the head and was transported to hospital for further treatment,” he said.
