Durban North resident scammed in online pet sale
This is the seventh incident this year where a person has been scammed in an online pet purchase.
YET another Durban North resident has been scammed into paying a deposit for a pedigree dog online. Durban North police confirmed a case of fraud had been opened, the seventh such incident in recent months. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the station, after money was deposited the victim did not receive the dog.
“The victim saw an online advert selling pedigree dog but would not specify the breed. He contacted the person whose details were listed on the advert. The scam artist asked for the money to be paid upfront (R3 600), which the victim did, only to find out he had been scammed. He has since tried to contact the number but there was no answer,” Deokaran said.

Deokaran said they were increasingly seeing more cases of people being defrauded online.
“We are warning residents to be wary of scams like this. If it seems too good to be true, in most cases it is. We urge residents not to deposit monies without checking the authenticity of the seller,” he said.
He urged residents to adopt animals from reputable shelters and breeders.
