Schoeman honoured at KZN sports awards

Durban North triathlete, Henri Schoeman, walked away with the KZN Sportsman of the Year award.

A NUMBER of KwaZulu-Natal’s sporting icons were recognised for their contributions recently at the sixth KZN Sport Awards at the Durban ICC. Around 80 nominees were shortlisted across 24 categories on the evening.

One of the evening’s biggest winners was Durban North triathlete, Henri Schoeman, who walked away with the KZN Sportsman of the Year award.

Schoeman, wasn’t there on the night due to competing at this year’s Super League Triathlon in Jersey (UK). Speaking to Northglen News, Schoeman said he was honoured to be recognised for his hard work.

“Winning the KZN Sportsman of the Year for the second time is a massive honour for me. Receiving this award is proof to me that all my hard work and long training hours are paying off. I’m also very excited that this puts the spotlight on triathlon and hopefully inspires youngsters to take up the sport,” he said.

Schoeman has put in some exceptional performances at events this year including a third place finish at the Beijing International Triathlon and a silver medal at the Super League Triathlon (SLT) Championship Series in St. Helier, Jersey.

“Super League is in a league of its own. It mixes up the triathlon format which in my opinion keeps the racing honest. I’m very happy that I was finally able to show my form in Super League as my previous two Super League races did not go according to plan and I did not achieve the results I knew I could,” he said.

Schoeman now turns his attention to the two remaining Super League races in Spain.
