Hannah helps SA team win bronze

The Durban North resident helped the South African U20 team win a bronze medal at the Federation of International Touch (FIT) Youth Touch World Cup in Malaysia.

DURBAN North resident, Hannah Maujean, was among more than 20 KwaZulu-Natal touch rugby players to feature at this year’s Federation of International Touch (FIT) Youth Touch World Cup in Malaysia.

Maujean was part of the U20 junior team that came third at the world cup winning a bronze medal. This was the former Our Lady of Fatima learner’s second appearance at the world games after respresenting the senior mixed team at the FIT World Cup in Coffs Harbour, Australia in 2015.

“I think this was a completely different experience from Australia. Being part of the U20 ladies junior team was great because you got to mingle with everyone your own age and my role was more defined. Overall I thought our team did a phenomenal job and we were really proud of claiming bronze. I was also pleased with my performance during the tournament,” she said.

Maujean has already been selected for the SA senior squad for next year’s FIT senior World Cup and hopes to make the final selection for the team.

“We have a training camp in December and only then will they make the selection on who will be going to the senior world cup. I would love to be part of the team so I just have to keep performing well and doing my best,” she said.

Hannah’s sister Naomi, who was also selected for the U18 SA team, unfortunately could not participate due to her matric year.

“I was sad not to be able to have my sister there as it would have been awesome if she was there. We are still young and I’m fairly confident we will both be on the field representing South Africa at a later stage which will be a dream come true for us,” she said.
