Two armed robberies rock north Durban

A gang of six suspects struck at two homes in Prestondale and uMhlanga within an hour of each other on Thursday.

A TOTAL of two armed robberies took place in North Durban within an hour of each other on Thursday afternoon. The incidents took place on Canterbury Crescent (uMhlanga) and Preston Drive (Prestondale).

Durban North SAPS confirmed two of the armed robberies involved six suspects.

According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, the first incident reportedly occurred at a home in Preston Drive, Prestondale.

“In the first incident, six armed suspects stormed the home before confining the domestic worker and the occupants of the home to a room while the gang ransacked the home before fleeing.

“The second incident also allegedly involved six armed suspects who forced entry into the home while the homeowners were present. They were confined to a room and the suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of cash,” he said.

Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North police said no arrests had been made and cases of armed robberies have been opened.

Police believe the gang, who were using a white Mercedes A45, were involved in both robberies.
