Suspects dressed in ‘police jackets’ steal R20 000 in cash

The suspects armed with handguns targeted a home in Quarry Heights.

A QUARRY Heights Drive family were robbed by two men who were allegedly wearing police ‘reflector jackets’ on Saturday evening. According to Sergeant Vincent Mthembu, spokesman for the Greenwood Park police, the incident occurred at about 8pm.

“It’s alleged the suspects wearing police reflector jackets knocked at the door and one of the children opened the door and let the suspects in thinking they were the police officers.

“They suspects drew firearms and locked the family members in one of the rooms in the house. They then asked the homeowner to give them all the money kept in the house for the stokvel. They took the sum of R20 000 and the cell phone and left,” he said.

Mthembu urged members of the community not to keep the large sum of money with them, alternatively divide the money inside the bank and deposit it into relevant bank accounts and rather do an EFT.
