WATCH-Woman robbed in Glen Anil driveway

One of the suspects was arrested and handed over to the Greenwood Park SAPS.

TWO women were ambushed by a gang of muggers in the early hours of Sunday morning. The suspects had allegedly hid in the bushes on Cypress Drive looking for an easy target when they spotted the duo waiting to enter their premises.

According to Andreas Mathios, Blue Security spokesperson, the women arrived home in the early hours of the morning after a night out.

“Three robbers had been lying in wait to ambush the women. As the victims alighted from a metered taxi outside the gate of the property and as the driver drove off, the suspects jumped out of the bush across the road and demanded cellphones and cash,” Mathios said.

CCTV footage of the incident later emerged showing one of the victims trying to fight back against her would-be attackers.

“One of the women screamed for help as a suspect lunged towards her friend and ripped her gold chain from her neck. The victim also tried fighting back but lost her footing in the incident. A second suspect took her cellphone and they fled back into the bush,” Mathios said.

A Blue Security officer later apprehended one of the suspects who was found hiding in the bushes in the same area.

“The other two suspects managed to get away. Greenwood Park SAPS attended the scene of the crime,” he said.
