Man loses 14K in online golf clubs sale
This is the seventh case of residents being defrauded online this year.
A LOCAL resident has been duped out of R14 000 by a scam artist online. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the unsuspecting victim had tried to purchase a set of golf clubs on an online sales site.
“The resident had seen a ‘good deal’ for a set of golf clubs for R14 000 and was requested to deposit the money into an account, which he did. However, since the money was deposited, the alleged scam artist cannot be reached,” he said.

The case comes days after a Virginia resident lost R98 000 to a man pretending to sell pure-breed French bulldogs. The alleged scamster only delivered one of the dogs to the man and disappeared with the money.
Deokaran said they were increasingly seeing more cases of people being defrauded online.
He urged residents not to deposit monies into any accounts without checking the authenticity of the seller.
