Jewellery shop robbers dump vehicle in uMhlanga

No arrests have been made in the case confirmed Durban North SAPS.

THE suspects involved in the armed robbery of a jewellery shop on Chartwell Drive dumped their getaway vehicle in uMhlanga just two kilometres away from the crime scene.

Durban North SAPS spokesman, Capt Raymond Deokaran, said the vehicle, a Hyundai Elantra was dumped on Portland Drive shortly after the robbery at Protea Mall.

“The vehicle used by the suspects was actually hijacked from the Cator Manor area earlier this month. Our officers searched the vehicle but found none of the jewellery taken from the shop or any weapons used during the robbery,” he said.

Two suspects, one of whom was dressed as a woman, are understood to have entered Anastasia Jewellers on Thursday morning pretending to be customers.

One of the staff members was struck over the head by the suspects during the robbery and several cases of jewellery were taken.

Deokaran said police were still searching for the suspects and that no arrests had yet been made.
