Criminals target high-end 4×4 vehicles

Last Wednesday, 15 August, another vehicle was stolen. Fortunately for the owner, the vehicle was later recovered.

GREENWOOD Park police have warned that 4×4 vehicles are being targeted by criminals.

Spokesperson for the station, Sergeant Vincent Mthembu said, “In recent times we have picked up a rise in 4×4 thefts. In the last couple of weeks about five vehicles of this type have been stolen or hijacked in the Durban North area.”

Last Wednesday, 15 August, another vehicle was stolen. Fortunately for the owner, the vehicle was later recovered.

“The complainant had parked his motor vehicle at 95 Marseilles Crescent, in the Briardene area. It was around 1pm when he was notified of unknown men attempting to open his car. When he rushed outside to check what was happening, the suspects sped off in his vehicle which was followed by a white VW Polo,” said Mthembu.

He went on to say,” The victim and his son gave chase but the suspects were too fast. With the help of his tracker company and the crime prevention, flying squad and national intervention unit units, the car was located at Springfield Park. It was abandoned behind a factory.”

He advised community members to avoid parking on the side of the road.

“Ensure that your car is locked at all times, even when driving and stationary at intersections. We also advise motorists to enhance security measures on their cars. As police we also urge all members of the community with information on the criminals responsible for this to come forward.”
