DURBAN North SAPS have confirmed cable theft on Norrie Crescent is the cause of their phone lines being down at the station. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the SAPS, the station received notification from Telkom that cable theft had caused an outage on the road.
“The theft has affected our station as our phone lines have been disconnected for more than 15 hours. We initially listed a cell phone number as an interim measure for the public to use, however, we’ve been inundated with calls and are unable to deal with the high volume of calls.

“We are urging residents or people in distress to call 10111, who will then contact us via radio over any crime related activity. At this stage we’ve escalated the matter to get our phone lines repaired in a timeous manner,” he said.
Cable and electricity theft costs the city more than R300-million annually.
