Springfield Park businessman furious over crime spike

The business, situated on Ebonyfield Crescent, was broken into at about 6.30am by a gang using a white VW Polo on Thursday last week.

A SPRINGFIELD Park businessman is at his wit’s end after his business was broken into last Thursday morning for the second time this year. Brett Terblanche of Tekweni Cabling said he believes a gang is targeting the businesses in the area with the aim of making off with thousands of rands worth of computer equipment.

The business, situated on Ebonyfield Crescent, was broken into at about 6.30am by a gang using a white VW Polo. The gang not only made off with more than R100 000 worth of computer equipment, but they also stole the footage from the recording system at the business as well as a fluke data tester worth R35 000.

Terblanche said Greenwood Park police need to do more to help secure the area which has been at the mercy of the gang for the last few months.

“This is happening too frequently. I’m not the only business affected but it feels like nothing is being done to help secure the area. We need active policing and visible patrols to help curb the crime spike. Besides the loss in terms of monetary value, I’ve lost 25 years worth of company records. We were in the process of doing a back-up of our machines with external hard drives, which were also taken.

“My anger and frustrations comes from the fact that I’ve taken every precaution I can to secure my business, from armed response to electric fencing to outdoor beams to alarm systems, but still this gang seems to operate with impunity,” he said.

Terblanche said he hoped police would step up active policing in the area.
