Dig into Rotary Club’s boerrie fundraiser

The public will be able to support the fundraiser every first and last Saturday of the month at the La Lucia Mall.

THE Durban North Rotary Club’s Boerewors Fundraiser is set for a fresh start at its new home at the La Lucia Mall.

This comes after a major setback when the club’s kitted cooking trailer was stolen last year.

Honourary Rotarian and ward councillor, Pete Graham had facilitated the initiative’s revival.

The Rotary Club, which has been selling boerewors rolls for over 20 years, uses the money raised by the initiative to fund its various community projects.

“It has always been important for the Rotary Club to be hands-on in our fundraisers,” said Rotarian, Gussie Augustus.

Some of the projects that will be funded by the initiative include the renovations at the Khabazela Township Crèche (located across the N2 in Durban North) as well as the North Bay lodge in Durban North, which cares for mentally disabled people.

Some of the funds will also be funnelled towards the club’s student exchange programme and free computer courses at the North Crest Primary School.

“At the crèche we have already painted four rooms – which had previously been bare plaster – and spent R14 000 to fence the property to improve the safety of the children,” added Augustus.

Supporting the initiative are FoodLovers Market and Mica Durban North, who will be supplying the ingredients and gas at reduced rates.

Graham thanked the mall management for hosting the fundraiser saying, “Our biggest challenge was finding the club’s initiative a new home.”

The public will be able to support the fundraiser every first and last Saturday of the month. The boerewors stand will be stationed at Entrance 4 at the La Lucia Mall.
