Effingham burglar shot and arrested

The suspect was armed with a crowbar when he and his accomplice accosted an armed reaction officer.

AN alleged burglar was shot and subsequently arrested after he and an accomplice had reportedly broken into a home in Effingham on Wednesday.

His accomplice managed to evade arrest.

According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, one of their response officers responded to an alleged house breaking on Bailey Road when the was confronted by the two suspects.

He said one of the suspects allegedly attacked the officer with a bucket, causing him to fall to the ground.

“The second suspect armed with a crowbar, began approaching the officer threatening to kill him. The armed reaction officer drew his firearm firing a shot to defend his life,” said Van Reenen.

The alleged burglar was shot in the leg and fell to the ground. At that point his accomplice fled on foot and managed to evade arrest, he added.

It is believed the two men forced their way into the home by breaking one of the windows.
