Bail for #SiamLee murder accused?

Magistrate Mohamed Motala is set to decide on Siam Lee murder accused's bail application this morning.

THE 29-year-old man accused of kidnapping and murdering Siam Lee in January this year is set to find out if he will be granted bail at the Durban Magistrate’s Court today.

The Assagay resident, who cannot be named as he is also facing a separate rape charge has been behind bars since his arrest on 17 January.

His bail application has been postponed 11 times.

Lee disappeared on 4 January on Margaret Maytom Avenue and her burnt body was discovered two days later in a sugarcane field in New Hanover in the KZN Midlands.

One of the most shocking moments of the bail application involved the accused’s vehicle, which had, through a tracking device, been linked to the site where Lee vanished as well as the site where her body was dumped.

However, the defense has argued that the vehicle had been unlawfully seized.

The state has opposed bail saying the accused posed a danger to society, might intimidate witnesses and destroy evidence. They have also alleged that the man was a flight risk, as he ‘faces a slew of serious charges’.
