Armed gang rob homes in uMhlanga and Somerset Park

Durban North SAPS confirmed two cases of house robbery have been opened.

AN armed gang targeted two homes in Somerset Park and uMhlanga on Thursday night. According to Kyle van Reenen of Marshall Security, the first incident occurred on Westridge Road in uMhlanga.

“Four suspects gained access to the home after tampering with the electronic gate motor. One of the suspects armed with a handgun held up the family before stealing a flat-screen TV and cell phones. The suspects then fled in a dark-coloured getaway vehicle,” he explained.

In the incident in Somerset Park, a gang using balaclavas stormed a home on Ilchester Avenue.

“The suspects derailed the gate before tying the homeowner and her son up. The suspects then made off with jewellery, watches and cell phones,” he said.

Durban North SAPS spokesman, Capt Raymond Deokaran, said police suspected the same gang was involved in both robberies.

“We can confirm two cases of house robbery have been opened. We believe the same gang was involved in both armed robberies because of the vehicle used, a silver Mercedes Benz. At this point no arrests have been made and our investigations are ongoing,” he said.
