DA reiterates its position on land expropriation without compensation

Maimane said the ANC government is now blaming the constitution for their shortfalls.

THE Democratic Alliance has assured land owners that it will do all in its power to prevent land grabs. This was said by its re-elected leader Mmusi Maimane.

Maimane was again voted into the leadership position at the weekend at the party’s Federal Congress.

Following the EFF’s call for land expropriation without compensation, parliament is currently in the process of receiving public comment on the amendment of section 25 of the constitution. The amendment will be to clarify that owners don’t have to be compensated for expropriated land.

“The ANC government has failed the people of South Africa on land redistribution and now want to blame the constitution. I want our people to own land in their own right as individuals,” said Maimane.

Meanwhile addressing parliament last month, president Cyril Ramaphosa reiterated that expropriation of land without compensation would be implemented in a way that will avoid damaging the economy and compromising food security.
