Suspects storm eMdloti home in armed robbery

The robbers who ransacked the place were in the home for around two hours.

FOUR armed suspects stormed a home on South Beach Road in eMdloti on Saturday night at around 10pm. The suspects who tied up the occupants using shoelaces, spent around two hours ransacking the home. What is more, the suspects smoked and drank a few beers while robbing the home.

The suspects also stole two vehicles from the home, a Ford Eco Sport and a Suzuki Celerio confirmed eMdloti CPF member, Gareth Nezar. One of the vehicles was later recovered abandoned near Inanda Dam.

“The suspects held up three people who were home at the time and used shoelaces to bind their hands. They put duvet covers over some of the students’ heads before ransacking the home. They were in the home for around two hours and even had time to smoke and drink a few beers.

“They took a number of items, including three cell phones, four laptops, several TVs and other items. When leaving the premises the suspects packed the items into two vehicles parked on the premises and then fled. One vehicle was later recovered in the Inanda area. The students were unharmed but were traumatised by the robbery,” he said.

Durban North SAPS spokesman, Capt Raymond Deokaran, confirmed a case of house robbery had been opened.

The robbery comes three days after a home invasion in Somerset Park. In that incident, the suspects threatened to burn one of the homeowner’s children if they did not lead them to the valuables. Two of the homeowner’s vehicles were also stolen in that incident.
