LISTEN-Be a Daredevil, run Cancer out of town
Proceeds from the run will be donated to the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and the Prostate Cancer Association of South Africa to help fund cancer awareness programmes and testing across the country.
THINGS are getting heated on the east coast as the city’s most daring men prepare to run cancer out of town at the Hollard Daredevil Run on Friday, 16 March at 3pm. The run aims to raise awareness of male cancers and the importance of early detection by encouraging men of all ages, shapes and sizes to run (or walk) along a five-kilometre route in support of the cause.
This year’s run will take place at the College Rovers Rugby Club Gate C, Kings Park Stadium on Jaco Jackson Drive.
The event has become a highlight of the South African running and social calendars, having grown in popularity since the first official one in 2009.
This year’s Daredevils of Durban will set off from Your Communications College Rovers Rugby Club at Kings Park Stadium, running through peak-hour traffic, and along the Snell Parade Beach promenade on a five kilometre route as they make their way towards the finish line.

Local resident, Phil Tomlinson, who has been given the moniker the ‘nut cracker’ due to his long-standing involvement in the run urged participants to get involved. This is what he had to say:
Historically, the run has taken place on a Friday afternoon, when the Speedo-clad runners are most visible to the public, to attract maximum awareness to this worthy initiative.
