Bushy situation finally cleared

The problematic bush in Flanders Drive in Mt Edgecombe, a haven for criminals, has been cleared.

THE bush on Flanders Drive in Mt Edgecombe, which was being used by criminals as a hideout, has finally been cleared by the eThekwini Municipality Parks Department.

Residents, employers and employees in Mt Edgecombe were, and still are, complaining about the increase in criminal activities in the Mt Edgecombe area, said DA PR councillor for the area, Riona Gokool.

“I have addressed these complaints with the sector manager from the Phoenix SAPS for Mt Edgecombe, they are currently meeting with residents and addressing their concerns,” Gokool said.

According to Gokool, the bush, which was becoming a hideout for criminals to attack workers travelling on the walkway between the office buildings and the bridge, which leads down to the M41, has now been cleared, after her continued persistence.

“Once I received these complaints I immediately contacted the SAPS sector manager for the area, who assured me that they will address the problem.

“As the DA PR councillor, I will continue to address the concerns of the residents for Ward 102, by fighting for a safer community, but safer communities can only be realised if the government of the day is serious about fighting crime,” she added.
