Mount Edgecombe man arrested for fake hijacking

A case of defeating the ends of justice was opened against the man.

A MOUNT Edgecombe man has been charged with defeating the ends of justice after he planned a fake hijacking earlier this month. The 37-year-old suspect who lives in Mount Edgecombe planned a fake hijacking on 23 January and a planning meeting was held at the Springfield Park.

“Three days later at about 11am, the suspect reported that he was hijacked of his silver Jaguar near Mount Moriah by two men at gunpoint. On the same day, the vehicle was recovered in the Chesterville area and suspects were arrested. A thorough police investigation by Phoenix police revealed that the ‘hijacking victim’ had planned the hijacking in order to defraud the insurance by claiming for a hijacked vehicle,” Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, provincial police spokesperson said.

She added a case of defeating the ends of justice was opened against the man.
