18 injured in Acutt Avenue crash

Eleven children were among the injured including an infant who suffered a fractured limb.

A TOTAL of 18 people, including 11 children were injured when a vehicle overturned on Acutt Avenue just after noon today. Rescue personnel from Crisis Medical, Netcare 911 and Rescue Care were also in attendance.

According to Shawn Herbst of Netcare 911, several of the occupants were ejected from the vehicle in the accident.

“Reports from the scene indicate the driver travelling along Chris Hani Road (North Coast) lost control of his vehicle and rolled, ejecting patients onto the road. Eighteen people suffered injuries ranging from mild to serious. All the patients were treated on scene and transported by various services to hospital,” he said.

Herbst added officials from Metro Police were on scene and will be investigating the cause of the crash.

Crisis Medical’s Kyle van Reenen said an infant was also injured in the horror crash.

“The infant suffered a suspected lower limb fracture as well as a suspected concussion. She was treated and stabilised on scene by Crisis Medical paramedics, before being taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital,” he said.
