Glen Anil couple celebrate 68th anniversary

‘We are blessed to have been together 68 years’ says local couple.

THERE are those who say that love doesn’t last, but they have obviously never met Glen Anil couple, Anna-Sophia Lotter and Carl David. The smitten couple celebrate their 68th anniversary on Sunday, 7 January.

The couple met in 1948 when Carl, was working at the bioscope (cinema) in Johannesburg.

“We were both working at the time and I used to visit the bioscope just to get a glimpse of Carl. He worked there and I used to watch him work and think he is so lovely, ‘that’s my glamour boy’ I would say. My friends used to tell me I was mad but I didn’t care,” Anna-Sophia laughed. “It was definitely love at first sight.”

The couple moved to Durban in the 1960s after Carl was transferred to KZN to work on the railways.

“We are blessed to have been together 68 years. She grabbed my eye when we first met and she still grabs my eye today. Every couple will go through tough spells but that’s life. Sometimes the hills are high but you’ve got to work at it. Happiness and trusting each other is very important,” said Carl, who celebrated his 90th Birthday recently. “We have both had good lives and I wouldn’t want to spend it with any other person,” he said.

The couple also had some advice for younger loverbirds.

“To younger couples, don’t try and have everything at once. You need to work at the relationship and the struggle and hardships are part of it.” they said.
