Glen Anil resident shot in hijacking

Netcare 911 paramedics attended the scene and transported the victim to Umhlanga Hospital where she was rushed into ICU.

A GLEN Anil resident is in a critical condition after she was shot during a hijacking on Keurboom Close on Wednesday night. According to police, the woman arrived at her home to pick up her son when she was confronted by three armed suspects using a blue VW Polo. A scuffle broke out between the victim and one of the suspects which resulted in her being shot in the abdomen.

The victim’s niece, a nine-year-old girl, sitting in the back seat jumped out of the vehicle and ran into one of the neighbours properties.

According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, the vehicle, a Hyundai iX35 was later recovered on Playfair Road, North beach.

The incident comes a day after an armed home invasion led to a shootout along Northway. The gang stormed the home just after 1.40pm on Tuesday afternoon and assaulted the homeowner’s son, who was at home at the time of the robbery. The son was struck over the head with the firearm during the robbery.

All the stolen property was later recovered in the suspect’s getaway vehicle, which was abandoned in the Durban CBD.
