WATCH: CCTV captures fatal crash on Umgeni Road

The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated, confirmed police.

CCTV footage of a fatal car accident on Umgeni Road which claimed the lives of three people at the weekend has surfaced. The video which has been shared on Facebook shows two cars colliding at high-speed at the intersection of Umgeni Road and Alpine Road.

The crash involved a Ford Focus ST and VW Polo. One person died at the scene while the two women died in hospital.

According to Rescue Care’s Ceron Lennox, one of the vehicles landed in a canal alongside Umgeni Road. She added the vehicles collided in a T-bone fashion.

“Paramedics found one person dead in one of the vehicles including two passengers who were critically injured. Following a two hour rescue to hoist the vehicle from the canal, the two patients, one of which was a 15 year old boy, were then transported to hospital,” she said.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated, confirmed police.

On the same evening, one person was killed after a motorist lost control of his vehicle and ploughed into several shacks at the Kwa-Mathambo Informal Settlement.  The deceased, Grace Nkambule (67) was sleeping on a pile of tyres when she was run over by the vehicle.
