House robbery suspects arrested after high-speed chase

A search of the vehicle revealed a 9mm pistol which had been modified by filing off its serial number.

A CAR stolen during a house robbery on Durban’s South Coast yesterday was recovered the same day near Queen Nandi Drive. The vehicle was spotted turning off the N2 onto Inanda Road. The car was being tracked by a car tracking company when Marshall Security, and police joined the chase.

In an attempt to evade arrest, the suspects turned onto oncoming traffic on Dumisani Makhaye Drive, where they collided head on with members of the SAPS K9 and Flying Squad. “The vehicle careened off the roadway, up an embankment and collided with a lamp post. None of the SAPS officer sustained injuries during the ordeal,” said Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen.

He added that one of the suspects alighted from the vehicle and fled on foot into nearby bushes. “With the assistance of the K9 Unit, the suspect was later apprehended. His accomplice and the driver of the vehicle, sustained a fractured leg and was unable to flee. Both men were arrested on site,” Van Reenen said.
