Body of murdered teen found in Ohlanga River

The boy's body was recovered around 600 metres upstream from the M4 bridge by the SAPS Search and Rescue team.

DURBAN North SAPS are investigating a case of murder after the body of a young boy, estimated to be around 15, was found floating in the Ohlanga River near the M4 bridge. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the station, a fisherman spotted the body floating face down.

Police later discovered the teenagers throat had been slit.

“The fisherman who spotted the body immediately contacted our officers who couldn’t get to the body with their vehicles. SAPS Search and Rescue were called out to retrieve the youngster’s body, he was found was about 600 metres upstream from the bridge over the M4. The body was not in a state of decomposition and we suspect he had been murdered recently.

“After the body was taken back to the Phoenix mortuary, we discovered that he had several puncture wounds to his back and we discovered his throat had been slit. A case of murder has been opened and we are currently looking for next of kin or anyone with a missing family member around the same age group,” he said.
