WATCH: Arnold rescues spitting cobra from Sunningdale home
Because of the recent flooding, residents in the Durban area and surrounds might expect to see snakes like the herald snakes, spitting cobra and stiletto snakes.
LOCAL snake man, Jason Arnold recently rescued a Mozambique spitting cobra from a home in Sunningdale. What is more, Arnold was on Up the Hill Road on another snake call-out, when one of the neighbours contacted him regarding the cobra.
According to Arnold, there has been an increase in snake-related activity since the heavy rains almost two weeks ago.
“Because of the recent flooding, residents in the Durban area and surrounds might expect to see snakes like the herald snakes, spitting cobra and stiletto snakes,” he said. “The rain will have encouraged frog and toad activity which, in turn, brings out snakes.”
He added should the spit hit the hair, face or arms, the venom poses no threat, however in the eyes, it causes an immediate stinging sensation and blindness and should be washed out immediately with water or milk.
