Marvelous mom ready for SA champs

The Durban North mother of three is looking at claiming her third national title in a row and her fourth overall.

A TOTAL of 17 years separated Durban North resident Olivia Donald’s (Reitz) national titles in 1998 and 2015 at the South African Bodyboarding Championships, but one thing that has never changed is her love and passion for the sport.

As the champs get underway this week, the mother of three is looking at claiming her third national title in a row and her fourth overall.
Northglen News recently caught up with Donald who said her love for the sport started off by hanging at the beach.

“I loved being outdoors and my best friend, Olivia Jones (Symcox), would hang out at the beach on a daily basis and we borrowed bodyboards from some of the local guys. It started off as a bit of fun and then I got more into it. I won my first competition in 1998 and I competed at the world champs finishing fifth in the world. After a while, the sport took a backseat, I then went off to Stellenbosch to study and soon after began my journey into motherhood.

“I always wanted to get back into the competitive scene because it was so enjoyable. And 17 years later and after my third child I decided to get involved again. I would obviously love to win this year’s title but I know the competition gets tougher each year. My goal is to win,” she said.
