Family held up in armed robbery in uMhlanga

The gang were seen fleeing the home in a dark coloured Toyota Yaris.

AN Umhlanga family were held up by a gang of armed men on Saturday night on Herrwood Drive. This is the fifth armed robbery in the North Durban area in the past 12 days

According to police, four suspects, two who were armed with firearms, forced the front door of the property open.

The suspects ransacked the house, removing the safe from the wall. It is believed the safe contained an undisclosed amount of cash and jewellery. The armed gang were seen fleeing the scene in a dark coloured Toyota Yaris.

The incident came hours after an armed gang stormed a home on Milkwood Drive on Friday. The suspects de-railed the main driveway gates and forced the front door open. They then stormed into the house demanding everyone to lay on the floor. One of the suspects then escorted the homeowner to the safe in the home.

“The gang made off with a cell phone, a laptop, a gun as well as an undisclosed amount of cash and jewellery. The Durban North/Umhlanga Crisis team were also on hand to help the traumatised family,” Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen said.
