Taxi driver, accomplices busted by SAPS and Marshall

The driver's accomplices pretended to be passengers and were robbing unsuspecting passengers at knife-point or gunpoint.

THREE men linked to several armed robberies over the course of the week have been arrested by Durban North SAPS and Marshall Security. The arrests come after five incidents were reported in the Durban North area.

According to Durban North SAPS spokesman, Capt Raymond Deokaran, the suspects were using the white Quantum mini-bus. The driver’s accomplices pretended to be passengers and then robbed the unsuspecting passengers at knife-point or gunpoint.

Kyle van Reenen of Marshall Security said the suspects were arrested on Blackburn Road on Friday night.

“Information was received on the description and registration of the vehicle, which was loaded onto the Marshall Security Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera systems in the area. The vehicle was picked up on our ANPR systems and armed reaction vehicles, together with Marshall’s special operations team and members of the SAPS arrested the suspects,” he said.

The arrests followed an armed robbery of two women by the same suspects on Thursday.
