R1.8-billion Cornubia Mall opens to the public

The 65 000m² retail mall offers a selection of food, fashion, lifestyle and sports attractions.

CORNUBIA Mall officially opened its doors to the public on Thursday. The mall estimated to of cost R1.8-billion is part of KwaZulu-Natal’s largest mixed-use, mixed-income, fully-integrated human settlement. It is strategically located adjacent to Mount Edgecombe and the Gateway Theatre of Shopping.

Darryl Mayers, head of Investec Property SA, which developed the 65 000m² retail mall said he believes the mall would become ‘the number one mall in the country’.

“This has been a massive collaboration over the course of eight years with 65 0000m² worth of retail space. This mall is about enhancing the lives of the communities around the mall. We have an incredibly robust tenant mix. In all we have 110 tenants, 80 per cent of whom, are represented by leading national retail chains in an out of the ordinary design.

“The focus here has always been about being differentiated from other malls by enhancing the dwell time of consumers.  The mall is connected by bridges, landscaped walkways and pavements to give shoppers a sense of being indoors and outdoors at the same time, making the most of the province’s favourable weather conditions,” he said.

The mall offers a selection of food, fashion, lifestyle and sports attractions including a 70 kilometre mountain bike trail.

There is also a seven-screen Nu-Metro cinema complex including 4Dx cinema.
