Cyclist stabbed and robbed on Riverside Road

The armed suspects are still at large following the incident which occurred just before lunchtime on Sunday.

A CYCLIST was stabbed and robbed on Riverside Road on Sunday morning. According to Kyle van Reenen of Marshall Security, the man was cycling near the Umgeni Bird Park when the incident occurred at about 11.45am.

“The local resident, was approached by two men armed with knives. They demanded his valuables and stabbed him in the arm and both of his legs while robbing him off his cell phone.

“He was treated by Crisis Medical and Rescue Care paramedics. He was transported to Umhlanga Hospital for further care. Unfortunately after a search of the surrounding trail alongside Riverside Road we could not find the suspects,” he said.

This is the first major incident since the murder of a man who was stabbed to death outside the bird park in May.

In March, a cyclist heading towards Riverside Road was attacked and dragged down the steps of the Ellis Brown Viaduct’s tower over the uMngeni River.
